According to a report by the US Army Times on October 14thOn October 13th, Scott Spemon, Chief Engineer of the US Army Corps of Engineers, stated at the annual meeting of the US Army Association that the primary task of modernization is to improve terrain shaping capabilities, deny effective use of systems by opponents, and keep control of battlefield rhythm in the hands of soldiers. The "Confrontation Activation Volcano System" and "General Anti Vehicle Ammunition" will replace outdated systems. These two systems are more portable, able to use general ammunition across platforms, and have self reporting capabilities. They can self destruct and self detonate remotely, and can be recycled and reused. The army hopes to create a complex networked landmine system based on this. The concepts currently under development include top attack ammunition and bottom attack ammunition that can communicate with the controller. The top attack ammunition plan is to conduct prototype design in early 2024 and begin rapid deployment in 2025; Bottom attack ammunition will undergo prototype design in 2025 and rapid deployment will begin in 2028; The complete network capability will be prototyped by the end of 2026 and deployed starting in 2029. The US Army also hopes that the landmine system will have electronic warfare capabilities.
